A SUBLIME TRIBUTE.

I woke up this morning to a cover version of Sublime playing on the radio.

It made me forget all the drum loops; synths; bleeps; clicks and kicks that have dominated my world lately and remember just how pure some music is. These guys were the best.

Here it is for you:

Sublime is an American ska punk band from Long Beach, California -- formed in 1986. The band’s original line-up consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Bud Gaugh (drums and percussion), and Eric Wilson (bass). Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996 and Sublime immediately split up.

Sublime have released about eight albums -- including live and acoustic -- but you should check out either Sublime -- Sublime; Sublime -- Greatest Hits; or Sublime -- 40ozĀ  to Freedom.

You can read all about Sublime at their Wikipedia page -- which includes some details of the band’s current (23 October 2009) dispute with Nowell’s executors for using the name “Sublime” with a new lead singer. They say Nowell was the sole owner of the name and that the band is infringing his trademark.

Anyway, here’s my favourite:
